Email Troubleshooting

Please use the following troubleshooting knowledge base to solve your email problems before contacting Da Web Works.

1. Error pops up when clicking on send/receive

Did the username and password dialog box pop up? If so, see topic below on "Cannot receive email".

For other possible error messages and their solutions check Dealing with error messages".

Were you able to receive or send emails before?
If yes, what did you do before that?
Did you change your Internet Service Provider?
If you did, see the topic on "SMTP server setting is correct but still cannot send" under "Cannot send email"

Did you change your email settings?
If so, go over the email settings and check what was changed. If possible revert back to the functioning settings.

Did you install any program that could cause the email settings to change (email programs such as Norton Antivirus can alter SMTP and/or POP3 server settings)?
If you did install Norton Anti-Virus, check POP3 server and SMTP server settings.

If no, please read, "Dealing with error messages" for possible solutions to the error(s) you receive.

2. Dealing with error messages

Error message - Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'mail.yourdomainname.com', Server: 'mail.yourdomainname.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Must give USER command first.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
Try This - If there are any emails in the "outbox", delete them, close the email program, and then restart it. Then go to the properties tab of the email account and under servers tab uncheck "Logon using Secure Password Authentication."

Error message - The host 'smtp.yourdomainname.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail.yourdomainname.com', Server: 'smtp. theirdomainname .com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
Try This - You may have setup the POP3 server incorrectly. Change the POP3 server setting to mail.yourdomainname.com

Error message - The host 'smtp.yourdomainname.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail.yourdomainname.com', Server: 'smtp.yourdomainname.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
Try This - If there are any emails in the "outbox", delete them, close the email program, and then restart it. Change the SMTP settings and then restart the email program again.
Or Try This - You may have setup the SMTP server incorrectly. Change the SMTP server setting to mail.yourdomainname.com

3. Cannot send email

Problem - Email stays in the "outbox" and is not sent.

Try This - Check SMTP server setting - SMTP setting should be set to mail.yourdomainname.com or your ISP's SMTP server.
Try This - SMTP server setting is correct but still cannot send - Your ISP may not allow clients to use other SMTP servers. They do this by blocking SMTP port 25. Here are a few ISP's that block SMTP port 25.

  • NetZero
  • Mindspring
  • Cox
  • MSN
  • Earthlink
  • Flashnet
  • MediaOne
  • AT&T
  • Verizon
  • Bell Sympatico

If your ISP is on this list you may need to contact them to get their SMTP server settings.

4. Cannot receive email

Problem - Username and password dialog box pops up when checking email

Try This - Make sure that your username is set to username#yourdomainname.com or username@yourdomainname.com
Try This - Double check your account name spelling
Try This - Check for upper and lower case letters on your password, as this is case sensitive. If you do not remember your password please use the contact form to contact us.
